About the 1-2-3 Putting System

Essential Drills for Putting Mastery
To reinforce the fundamentals of the 1-2-3 Putting System and Clock Theory, practice the following drills:
Distance Ladder: Set up markers at various distances from the hole (3, 5, 10, 20, and 30 feet). Use the 1-2-3 stance and stroke method for each distance, focusing on speed and line control.
Around the World: Place balls in a circle around the hole at 3 feet. Practice consistent strokes using the Step 1 method, then increase the distance to 5 and 10 feet as you improve.
Green Reading Practice: Walk around the hole and apply the Clock Theory to identify key positions (6 o’clock, 12 o’clock, 3 o’clock, and 9 o’clock). Putt from each position to understand how the ball breaks and adjust your aim accordingly.
Distance Ladder Drill

The Distance Ladder drill is designed to help you master putt distances and improve your control over various lengths. To set up, place tees or markers at 3, 5, 10, 20, and 30 feet from the hole. The objective is to practice putts at each distance, focusing on maintaining a consistent stroke and speed. Key areas to focus on include using the 1-2-3 stance and stroke method, and applying Clock Theory to read the break of each putt. This drill will enhance your ability to judge distances and make more accurate putts.
Around the World Drill
Developing Consistency
The Around the World drill is perfect for developing consistency in your putting stroke. Start by placing five balls in a circle around the hole, each at a distance of 3 feet. The goal is to make each putt using the Step 1 method for short putts, focusing on stroke consistency and aiming for the center of the cup. Once you are comfortable, increase the distance to 5 feet and then to 10 feet. This drill helps you practice putts from various angles and distances, improving your overall putting accuracy.

Green Reading Practice

Green Reading Practice is essential for mastering the Clock Theory and improving your green reading skills. Begin by walking around the hole and identifying the 6 o’clock, 12 o’clock, 3 o’clock, and 9 o’clock positions. Putt from each clock position and observe how the ball breaks. This drill helps you understand the slopes and breaks of the green, allowing you to adjust your aim and speed accordingly. With consistent practice, you will become more confident in reading greens and making accurate putts.
